I have my TV connected with HDMI, and the only sound output it was is the average headphone jack. When I connect the jack to a shelf stero it sounds awesome, but still... The 3.5mm will do just fine, the quality is very hard to tell between the two analog sources. If you want the RCA connecters (Red, white) then get a better Home theater.
